Pre-assessment Strategy
- Do a KWL as a journal activity while brainstorming in small groups and as a class
Group Assignments
- Classes will learn how to access the internet and WorldBookOnline through teacher-led instruction in the computer lab.
- Each classroom will have an ant colony to observe
- Reading groups will read and discuss Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg
Individual Assignments
- Journal observations of the ant colony by either drawings or writings
- Students will select books to read about ants during silent reading time
- Complete a creative writing project describing their day if they were an ant
- Draw a picture or make a model of an ant and label parts
- Use the SimAnt program on the computer to learn about the life of ants
- Students will view UnitedStreaming videos to learn about ants
Learning Experience
- Teacher will lead class in a K-W-L activity to determine students’ prior knowledge of ants
