Pre-assessment Strategy

• Do a KWL as a journal activity while brainstorming in small groups and as a class

Group Assignments

• Classes will learn how to access the internet and WorldBookOnline through teacher-led instruction in the computer lab.
• Each classroom will have an ant colony to observe
• Reading groups will read and discuss Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg

Individual Assignments

• Journal observations of the ant colony by either drawings or writings
• Students will select books to read about ants during silent reading time
• Complete a creative writing project describing their day if they were an ant
• Draw a picture or make a model of an ant and label parts
• Use the SimAnt program on the computer to learn about the life of ants
• Students will view UnitedStreaming videos to learn about ants
