KINDERGARTEN

Another successful year of kindergarten has come to an end! All the kindergarten children have grown in their own way. We would like this to continue through-out the summer. We encourage you to sign your child up for the summer reading program offered by the Hawarden Pubic Library. The librarians were here to share the fun activities and prizes, which your child can participate in and earn. It sure looks like a lot of fun.

The kids will want to socialize during the summer. There are plenty of opportunities for your child to be involved with others. Have a safe and fun summer. Remember to read, read, and read some more! Don’t forget you’re child is good at writing too! Have them keep a summer journal.

FIRST GRADE

Reading

The first grade will be finishing up the year with the story On the Go!  The story is about different kinds of transportation by land, water, and air.  Cars, animals, trains, and subways are highlighted for land; ships and boats for water; and airplanes for air.   Please review the following phonics sounds: oo, ar, ir, ur, er, ow, ou, oi, and oy.  The vocabulary for the week includes: from horse, or, people, these.   Please continue to review ALL vocabulary or sight words over the summer!

Math

We will be finishing chapter 11 (Addition and Subtraction Facts to 18).  Ask your child about the different strategies used in addition and subtraction.

It has been a pleasure to work with your child and you this year!  It is our hope that you will continue to work with your child over this summer.  Keep reading and make sure to visit the public library and join the summer reading program.   Please continue to work on addition and subtraction facts, telling time and counting money.  With your help your child will find second grade to be a rewarding experience!
